I have straight thick hair also and I find this hairstyle cute:

Princess Bun:

1. part hair on your right side

2. take an one inch section from the right side of the part and begin twisting it

3. pull the twist to the back of your head and hold it at the nape of your neck

4. gather your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck, including the twist and secure with an elastic

5. take an 1/2 inch section of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic securing with pins underneath the tail

6. take an 1/4 inch section of hair from the end, wrap it around the elastic

7. secure it with pins underneath the elastic.
