I have thick coarse hair and always needing to find the better products myself but don't like to spend much. I got my flat iron at wal-mart.(sorry I don't remember the brand.) I spent maybe 20.00 on it and it works great. However i did make sure to get one that is gold platted because it holds longer.

don't get the cheap ones from walmart or the drug store. they'll ruin your hair because the plates are poor quality and they don't distribute heat evenly, causing you to have to go over certain sections more than once which results in excessive heat damage and breakage. I recommend the HAI classic iron and the Solia 1 1/4 inch. They're both great PROFESSIONAL irons under $100 and you can find them along with many others on folica.com. Don't go to walmart and take the cheap way out. You'll pay for it big time with unhealthy hair later.
